Beginning January 2013, your BCBS medical plan benefits changed in several areas with some items actually beginning on April 1, 2013. This has surprised a couple of us. Please be informed! As a reminder, all services received at a network provider's office (other than preventive and consultation) will apply to the annual deductible and then process at 80% of allowable amounts. These services include but are not limited to: lab, x-rays, allergy shots/testing, injections, etc. If the services the provider submits to BCBS are solely preventive and or consultative, the deductible and coinsurance will not apply. So, this will be noticed if you have an office visit and it is more than just preventive. Fortunately, the annual $400 deductible did not change and continues to provide financial protection.
