Naturally Slim Program - November Update
The Fall 2012 Naturally Slim participants lost a total of 2,271 pounds or 1.14 tons! For participants who submitted their weight, there was an average cumulative weight loss of 11.0 pounds. Over 180 Baylor faculty, staff and/or their spouse (as applicable) completed the full program for a completion rate of 75%! This is excellent! For continued health improvement, Baylor will help bring in the new year with a Spring 2013 program. What a great way to start the new year with a very effective program to go along with that new year resolve! 2012 Naturally Slim participants ("Alumni") can continue to improve and sustain by participating in the seven week Naturally Slim Advanced program concurrently with the regular Naturally Slim "Foundations" programs. With over 650 Baylor Naturally Slim Alumni and a group of new participants, 2013 will be a great year of improving and maintaining health. Sic'em Bears! Details on the spring 2013 program will be provided in January. When it comes to enjoying holiday nutrition this season, may we be inspired to keep doing what we learned in Naturally Slim, to be intentional to satisfy hunger vs. appetite and to enjoy quality over quantity! Merry Christmas and Happy/Healthy New Year!
240 Baylor faculty, staff and/or their spouse (as applicable) lost a total of 1697 pounds through the first 7 weeks of the fall 2012 program. For participants that are submitting their weight, there is an average cumulative weight loss of 8.8 pounds.
Staff got to hear, meet and get pictures with Naturally Slim President, Marcia Upson at the Fall Staff Forum. Marcia is excited at how Baylor faculty and staff have embraced health improvement.
The current ten-week program which began September 3rd, will finish the week of November 16th, is provided to accepted participants at no cost - a $500 value! Successful program completion includes obtaining the biometric screenings (conducted by a third party vendor) before AND after the program and participation in at least 8 of the 10 on-line Naturally Slim sessions. Faculty and staff who accomplish this are eligible for a $100 incentive, which will be paid in December. The spring 2013 program will be announced in January.

High interest continues as 240 participants are enrolled in the fall program plus Marcia Upson, President of Naturally Slim, is scheduled to speak at the Fall Staff Forum on September 20! Clearly, Baylor faculty and staff want to improve their health! The total Naturally Slim participation count including the spring and fall is at 680. Participants have finished their pre-program biometric screenings and will begin classes on September 3. We are especially glad to have Marcia Upson in person after seeing her online video lessons. Marcia quickly accepted our invitation and is excited about meeting Baylor people. We look forward to hearing from Marcia!
Through Baylor's program with Naturally Slim, you have the opportunity to lose weight, feel better, and decrease your risk factors for metabolic syndrome. We've all heard that healthy eating, healthy weight management, and physical activity can help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, many cancers, and other health problems. But the precursors to these problems - collectively known as "metabolic syndrome" - are a silent epidemic that affects an estimated one in four adult Americans.
Naturally Slim focuses on the issue of metabolic syndrome and offers methods to help you create changes in your behavior. More specifically, it:
- Fights metabolic syndrome by focusing on weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
- Enables you to develop a lifestyle of eating your favorite foods while still improving health and losing weight
- Teaches you to identify personal eating habits, recognize the difference between true hunger and psychological hunger, understand how hydration habits influence hunger, and practice ways to minimize fat storage
- Addresses how exercise, stress, and your environment affect weight loss
- Includes 10 self-paced, online video sessions, as well as frequent correspondence and positive guidance from a personal health counselor over a 10-week period
- Includes a pre- and post-course biometric screening
For accepted participants, the Naturally Slim program (a $500 value) will be provided at no cost. Depending on volume of program participants and to assure equal access, name selection may be "lottery" style by the Naturally Slim vendor. Faculty and staff who participate in both pre- and post-program biometric screenings and complete 8 of 10 online video sessions will be eligible for a $100 incentive after the 10-week course. This incentive applies only to eligible faculty and staff (and not a spouse). Plans for the Spring 2013 program offering will be announced at the end of this year.
PLEASE NOTE: The fall 2012 program is offered to regular full-time faculty and staff and their spouse (if applicable) WHO DID NOT PARTICIPATE (WAS NOT ACCEPTED) in the spring 2012 program.
