Vanguard Prep School Scholarship
We are proud to announce the 2017-2018 "Bright" Future Scholarship Recipient - Dahbin Shim.
She is the daughter of Jahyun and Jaeho Shim. Dahbin is currently a student at River Valley Middle School.
Jaeho is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation and the Graduate Program Director who oversees all graduate programs in the department.
The Scholarship, in memory of Baylor Professor and Vanguard founding member Dr. Louis Bright, is a full-tuition merit scholarship in his name for a rising 7th grade student of a full-time Baylor employee. Vanguard will provide the 7th grader a full tuition scholarship 7th -12th grade as long as all conditions are met.
The recipient was selected based on being a well-rounded student who will take advantage of all that Vanguard has to offer. We believe the recipient will uphold Vanguard’s values, including, but not exclusive to, a sense of community, physical vigor, passion for learning, and a willingness to try new things. Vanguard’s core values are rigor, respect, and responsibility.
The Bright Futures Scholarship and how to apply for 2018-2019
Vanguard College Preparatory School believes in the value of a college preparatory education and appreciates the long-standing partnership with Baylor University. Since 2003, 105 Vanguard graduates have chosen Baylor University to continue their academic pursuits.
Vanguard features small class-sizes where students get individualized attention. They instill time management, organization skills, and study habits into their students, which benefit them for the rest of their lives. "Not only do we offer students in grades 7-12 a full slate of academics, fine arts, sports, and extracurricular activities, but we also teach responsibility, rigor and respect." Vanguard's SAT scores are 27% higher than the state average and the school has produced over 41 National Merit Finalists in the past 17 years. "Vanguard believes our education standards align with the high standards of Baylor University."

- Parent is a current full-time Baylor employee
- Vanguard on campus visit by family and prospective student
- Prospective student shadows a current 7th grader for an entire day
- Prospective student transcript
- Vanguard application completed
- Student interview with Vanguard School representatives
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA annually 7th - 12th grade
- Abide by Vanguard Honor Code
For consideration for 2018-2019 Vanguard "Bright" Future scholarship, the applicant must contact Vanguard and complete the requirements by December 1st, 2017. All interviews will be completed in January. Vanguard will notify the scholarship recipient in early February.
