Critically-acclaimed playwright Craig Wright appeared in November as the 2009 recipient of the Horton Foote Excellence in American Playwriting Award. Mr. Wright's writing career has included award-winning plays such as Orange Flower Water, The Pavilion, and Grace, as well as several television shows including Lost, Six Feet Under, and Dirty Sexy Money. Craig Wright continues to write and produce on stage and for television.
"My participation as the 2009 honored playwright at the Horton Foote American Playwrights Festival was a huge turning point in my self-understanding as a playwright. To see so many of my plays read and performed, to hear papers read showing me my own work from fresh angles, and to be able to share what I've learned over the years with such an enthusiastic and committed community of students, educators, and festival attendees provided me with a unique opportunity to take stock and move forward with fresh energy. Stan Denman and the whole theatre faculty of Baylor managed all the events with a precision and grace the likes of which I've never seen. And I ate a lot of really good food."
The recent 2009 Festival paid special tribute to the late Horton Foote, honoring his legacy of great storytelling in the theatre.
