Honors Student Advisory CouncilThe Honors Student Advisory Council (HSAC) is an organization designed to assist the Honors Program in facilitating social events, educational activities, and much more. The Council was established in 1959, and since then has been led by students eager to be the student voice of the program to faculty and staff and to current and prospective students.HSAC helps the Honors Program students residing in both a Living-Learning Center and elsewhere to connect with each other, with faculty, and with the surrounding community. Some of its social activities include the Halloween Haunted House, Christmas Party, Night-Out Auction, and the Senior Soirée. HSAC serves more than just the Honors Program, however, raising money for other organizations as well. Through the Night-Out Auction alone last year, HSAC raised over four hundred dollars for the L.E.A.F. (Learning English Among Friends) Foundation at Baylor University. Educational growth is an essential goal of HSAC, partially facilitated in our monthly Pizza Forums and other events. In the Pizza Forums, professors are asked to give a lecture on their favorite topic in any style. Students are provided with free pizzas and an opportunity to hear professors speak on their area of expertise. Past professors have included Dr. Tom Hanks, Dr. Michael Korpi, Dr. Michael Foley, and many others. Past topics have ranged from political panels to bioethics and even poetry. Other events are still in the planning process, including an upcoming "Junior Jeopardy," in which Junior Honors Program students battle in a game of Jeopardy against some of their favorite professors. Through events of this nature, students have the opportunity to interact with their professors in a less formal, extracurricular setting.
