Schedule of Events 2010
The 2010 Heart of Texas Regional History Fair is scheduled for February 11-12, 2010. The fair takes place in the Bill Daniel Student Center on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The public is invited to view Performances and Documentaries at scheduled judging times. Exhibits, Web Sites, and Historical Papers are closed to public viewing during judging, 1-3 p.m. Friday.
The schedule below is tentative and may change according to the requirements of the fair. The final schedule will be available after January 25. Please call the HOTRHF office (254 753-3251) if you have questions or if you need a copy of the final schedule.
Thursday, FEBRUARY 11, 2010 3:00--5:30 p.m. Check-in and set-up for all junior division exhibits Please DO NOT come early. We cannot start to check in students until 3 p.m.! - Group exhibits may be checked in and set up at this time by one group member, but the other members MUST check in for themselves no later than Friday morning.
- Historical papers, Web sites, performances, and documentaries may be checked in Thursday afternoon, too, if convenient for the students or their parents.
- Do NOT bring props, costumes, or audiovisual equipment if you are scheduled for Friday judging of performances or documentaries; there is no storage available overnight.
5:15--6:00 p.m. Judges' orientation Gregory Room - light dinner This session is for HOTRHF regular category judges only, not special award judges.
6:00--9:00 p.m. Preliminary judging of all junior division exhibits Students are not required to be present and must leave by 6:00 p.m.
Judging of selected performances and documentaries, if necessary Teachers and students will be advised in advance if they are to be judged Thursday evening.
Friday, FEBRUARY 12, 2010 7:00--7:45 a.m. Judges' orientation Gregory Room - continental breakfast This session is for HOTRHF regular category judges only, not special award judges.
8:00--9:00 a.m. Check-in for every competitor in the fair who did not check in on Thursday - Check-in is mandatory for each student who did not check in on Thursday, including historical paper and Web site students.
- Every entrant MUST check in for herself or himself on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Students who do not check in are ineligible for any awards. Failure of any member of a group to check in disqualifies the entire group.
- Teachers and/or parents CANNOT check in for students.
8:30--3:00 p.m. Judging of performances and documentaries Performances and documentaries will be judged according to a detailed judging schedule available at check-in.
9:00--11:00 a.m. Fifth grade exhibit judging Fifth grade students must be present during judging.
12:00--1:00 p.m. Sponsors' meeting and luncheon Loessin Room, Bill Daniel Student Center
12:00--1:00 p.m. Judges' luncheon Gregory Room, Bill Daniel Student Center Luncheon is for regular category judges only, not special award judges.
1:00--3:00 p.m. Final judging of all junior and senior exhibits Students must be standing by their exhibits during this time. Exhibit hall will be CLOSED to public viewing of exhibits, papers, and Web Sites.
5:00--6:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony Students and teachers should remain for the entire program unless excused by the HOTRHF Director. ONLY fifth grade competitors may begin removing projects at 5:00 p.m.
Please note that judging callbacks may delay the start of the awards ceremony.
6:00--6:30 p.m. Winners' orientation to Texas History Day Entry information packets for the state contest will be distributed to all first and second place winners in each category immediately following the ceremony. All first and second place winners and their sponsors must attend this brief meeting.
6:00 p.m. Take down projects Everything must be removed by 7:00 p.m.
