The Ada Margaret Smith Award is named in memory of a longtime Cameron teacher and historian in recognition of her love for and commitment to students and history. This award is presented to the most promising young historian in the junior or senior division at the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair. The winner of the Ada Margaret Smith Award receives a brass and wood plaque engraved with his or her name and the year of the award.
Applications and nomination letters must be submitted for students to be considered for the award. Only one student per school may be nominated.
Nomination letter: To nominate a student, a sponsoring teacher must write a letter of nomination, describing the nominee's background, involvement in the community and with other students, and interest in and dedication to the study of history. Only one nomination per school will be accepted.
Application form: Students must complete the application form and mail it and the letter of nomination from their teacher (see above) all in one envelope to the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair office.
Interview: Applications for the award will be reviewed by HOTRHF representatives. Selected applicants will be invited to an interview during the Regional History Fair on the Baylor University campus on the Friday of the fair. The students will be notified by noon Thursday of the time and place of the interview.
The winner of the Ada Margaret Smith Award will be announced at the annual Heart of Texas Regional History Fair awards ceremony, which begins at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
Entry deadline for the award for the 2015 fair is Monday, February 4, 2015.
