"Baylor gave me a good foundational knowledge that prepared me for the real world."

Adam Brock came to Baylor as undergraduate because he loved the look and feel of the campus. After graduation, Adam was lured by the intimacy and interaction between students and professors and enrolled part-time in the university's Master of Science in Information Systems program. Adam graduated in 2010 and quickly discovered that his work in the classroom translated into job opportunities.

"The information I learned in my classes provided me with a good foundation for my field," Adam explains. "I learned a lot about security in my classes with Randy Vaughn, specifically about malware and botnets. One independent study I did with Dr. Trower allowed me to get credit for Microsoft certifications. Dr. Green's class taught me a lot about databases and SQL. I still use the information I learned in his class on a regular basis."

Adam currently works for Valley Services, Inc. Located just outside of Jackson, Mississippi, Valley Services is a food service company that operates over 200 locations across the country including hospitals, colleges and universities, industrial cafeterias, commercial and office building cafeterias, senior nutrition services, Meals on Wheels programs, correctional facilities, and daycare facilities. Adam is the Technical Support Manager, overseeing a team of four specialists responsible for providing technical support to employees. While simultaneously managing the company's numerous systems, Adam and his team are the primary point-of-contact for over 400 users.

Keeping track of it all might seem like a constant struggle, but Adam gives credit to the education and training he received at Baylor which prepared him for the stress and strain of systems management. "Baylor gave me a good foundational knowledge that prepared me for the real world," Adam says. "The program provided a good balance of text book information and real world information. The case studies we reviewed and discussed were also very helpful. I feel like I really benefited from the small class size. It allowed us to have great discussions about real world problems and solutions."
