Islam and Religious Freedom: Prospects and Pitfalls in the Land Between Two Rivers:
Dr. Aaron M. Tyler, (who teaches at St. Mary's University in San Antonio and occasionally teaches a class at Baylor and Truett Seminary), gave a thorough presentation on the place of religious freedom in present-day Iraq, de jure and de facto. Dr. Tyler considered whether Iraq's constitution offers an acceptable level of religious freedom, and who has the authority to make such a determination. He considered the religious and geographical contexts of interpreting religious freedom, and he concluded with a discussion of the challenges that religious minorities are confronting today in Iraq. The presentation ended with a very lively discussion with audience members who integrated their perspectives from studies in religion, political science, and history, as well as military service in Iraq.
