Juggling Life

Adam Sealey is a masters student, husband, and father. He also works on fighter jets in his free time. "I'm working on a computer memory scheduling algorithm and implementation for the F/A-18 fighter plane," he says. "This incorporates advanced algorithm design, object oriented design, and development in C++."

Easy for this new father to say. Adam, a husband and father of a newborn, is a third year part-time student working on his masters in computer science in addition to working full time for the university in Information Security. "The department has been extremely helpful and accommodating in allowing me to work at my pace while still encouraging me toward the end goal," he says.

Information Security Management

That end goal, working in information security management, will be an easy transition for Adam, considering the experience he's already gaining. The Master of Science in Computer Science, known for its hands-on approach, offers training in software systems development while working under the mentorship of a faculty member on a thesis or project.

This closeness with faculty is one of the things Adam appreciates most about the program. "The professors have been extremely accessible, making time in their schedules to discuss deeper topics outside of what was covered in class," he says. "This really fostered a feeling of ‘learning for knowledge sake' over ‘learning for a grade'."

Life at Baylor

He has found opportunities in life outside of his studies and family as well. "Baylor provides a ton of opportunities to get involved, from intramurals to the SLC, or Baylor athletics to SUB activities," Adam says. "Connection to Internet2 also facilitates scholarship opportunities."

But the academic challenge and camaraderie isn't new to him, after all, he completed his undergraduate studies here. More surprising to the Oregon native, "I actually don't mind living in Texas," he admits. "I miss the mountains though."
