Dean Lyon made three announcements:

All graduate programs have received announcements of the 2003-2004 stipend and tuition awards. While the increases (means of 9.6% for stipends and 8 % for tuition) are not as high as requested, they represent a significant commitment to graduate education during a challenging budget year.

The health insurance benefits have been broadened to include doctoral students who teach labs. This expanded coverage should enhance our ability to recruit in the sciences. Details are available under the "Benefits" section for "Current Students" on the Graduate School web site. http://www.baylor.edu/graduate/home.php

Scholars Day is scheduled for February 12, 2003, with approximately 130 presentations and about 150 presenters-both record highs. Dr. David Livingstone, Professor of Geography and Intellectual History at the Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, will be the keynote luncheon speaker.

Dr. Stuart Rosenbaum of the Philosophy Department and Dr. Tillman Rodabough of the Sociology Department gave presentations showing how their web sites are being used help recruit graduate students.
