Dean Larry Lyon gave the invocation.
Dr. Richard Kreider, Chair of the Health, Human Performance and Recreation Department, gave a Powerpoint presentation regarding the proposed new degree within HHPR, the Doctor of Philosophy-Exercise, Nutrition, and Preventative Health. The entire proposal may be viewed at the following address: http://www.baylor.edu/soe/hhpr
The Council approved the proposed new degree. Dr. Lyon will take the proposal to the Provost for review. If the Provost approves the new degree, then it would be reviewed by President Sloan. If approved by the President, then the proposal would be presented to the Regents for final approval.
Scholars' Day 2003 had 137 presentations and 160 presenters. Several suggestions were offered for improvement for the next year. Also, in 2004, Scholars' Day will be moved to a Friday and linked to campus visits for potential graduate students. Department will be encouraged to use this as a recruiting weekend for interested students.
Dr. Lyon encouraged the graduate program directors to be vocal proponents for graduate education at Baylor. Vision 2012 has a strong emphasis on scholarship and graduate education.
