12. Positon Description:
13. Essential Function: Assist the Director for Civic Engagement & Educational Development with exploring best practices in community-based research. Research higher education best practices in university-wide service learning programming. Assist in developing and advising a civic engagement student advisory board. Assist the Director for Civic Engagement & Educational Development and Director for Pre-Health Studies in advising the Community Health Fellow Program. Research best practices for service-learning curriculum and co-curricular programs including the Carnegie Classification for service. Assist in developing opportunities for students to grow in personal and social responsibility. Perform other duties as assigned. Attend at least two professional development campus workshops. Conduct literature reviews, surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups. Create or maintain faculty and community partner databases. Assist the Office of Community Engagement & Service staff with summer orientation presentations, other promotion and recruitment activities.

Secondary Function: REFLECTIONS Review of Carnegie Classification for Service The Carnegie Foundation defines community engagement as the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. You will be able to articulate the review process and assist the office of community engagement with the university's pursuit of such classification. http://classifications.carnegiefoundation.org/descriptions/community_engagement.php CAS Standards (Dialogue) After reading the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education – The Book of Professional Standards for Higher Education 2003, "CAS Standards", on The Role of Service Learning Programs you will discuss the material highlighting key points from the reading and how they relate to the work of the Office of Community Engagement & Service. Greater Waco Community Interviews and Dialogues As a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Community Engagement & Service, you will interview community member from the Greater Waco area in order to expand your knowledge of university and community relations. You will learn a deeper importance of sustainable partnerships that initiate purposeful collaboration that meets community-defined needs.
