The Freiburg Program allows for intensive language study, as well as study in other disciplines (mostly in the German language, however). Students usually begin by taking special university courses (language and other subjects) designed for foreign students; most students are able to take German university-level courses during the second exchange semester. Of course, advanced students may immediately enroll in the regular courses. It is possible to earn 12-18 credit hours each semester, just as you might during an on-campus semester; students work closely with an advisor to ensure that the courses that they take abroad will be accepted by their degree programs. The German Division works closely with other Departments to clarify course objectives and expectations in the planning stages and throughout study abroad and return.
