Fine Arts LLC Leadership Roles

Leadership Positions

Interested in becoming a student leader? The Fine Arts LLC offers three different unique opportunities for students who wish to serve their peers and community in a leadership capacity. Below you will find position descriptions as well as a link to apply for one or more of these excellent opportunities!

Fine Arts LLC Welcome Week Leader

Purpose

The Welcome Week Leader position is designed to warmly welcome, energize, unify, and validate all new students as they begin their Baylor experience. Welcome Week is all about new students! Our hope is that new Fine Arts LLC students will begin to feel a real sense of belonging to the Baylor community after experiencing Welcome Week!

Expectations

Each Welcome Week Leader will work in partnership with another Welcome Week Leader to lead a small group (14-16 students) and model building healthy relationships while encouraging students in their holistic development, including: pursuing academic excellence, spiritual growth, relationship building, and a healthy lifestyle. Leaders will accompany new students to planned local activities to help introduce the new students to Baylor and Waco.

Requirements/Important Dates

Welcome Week Leaders are required to participate in the following:

  • Welcome Week Spring Gathering: Tuesday, April 16th
  • Welcome Week/Student Leader Move In: August 18
  • Welcome Week Leader Training: August 19th and August 20th (all day)
  • Move In Day for the Fine Arts LLC: August 21
  • Welcome Week: August 22-25th

Compensation

Student Leaders will receive various t-shirts for Welcome Week and the Fine Arts LLC Leader program, as well as a chance to move into the residence hall early for welcome week training.

Fine Arts LLC Peer Leader
Students who choose to be Peer Leaders will also be required to be Welcome Week Leaders

Purpose

The Peer Leader position is an advanced leadership opportunity for students who want to help teach and guide new students from the time they arrive on campus for Welcome Week throughout the first semester. Peer leaders work in partnership with other Fine Arts LLC staff to educate, guide, and support a group of students new to Baylor. Peer leaders are linked to and expected to build a good relationship with the faculty members of Fine Arts LLC course. Peer leaders are expected to initiate relationships with new students and plan periodic group activities for their class of students. In addition, Peer Leaders assist with the personal and academic concerns of students and serve as an information resource. Peer leaders are enrolled in a 3-credit academic course entitled, Peer Leadership.

Expectations

To lead freshman Fine Arts LLC students through the first semester of school as a part of the Fine Arts LLC Appreciation class. During these programs, student leaders will focus on helping students make connections with other students, faculty, staff, and resources on campus. In addition, Peer Leaders will serve as motivators for new students, encouraging each students to seek out and make the most of their Baylor experience. Lastly, leaders will serve as their students' support system through their transition – and hopefully beyond. Through small group discussion, one-on-one interactions, and campus events as well as Fine Arts LLC events, student leaders will be able to accomplish building a network of support for their group of new students.

Requirements/Important Dates

Peer Leaders are required to participate in the following:

  • Welcome Week Spring Gathering: Tuesday, April 16th
  • Welcome Week/Student Leader Move In: August 18
  • Welcome Week Leader Training: August 19th and August 20th (all day)
  • Move In Day for the Fine Arts LLC: August 21
  • Welcome Week: August 22-25th • Freshman Class: Only for certain days and times, TBA
  • Peer Leader (Leadership Class): TBD (depending on leader availability)
  • Small and large group events associated with the Fine Arts LLC freshman course

Compensation

Student Leaders will receive various t-shirts for Welcome Week and the Fine Arts LLC Leader program, as well as a chance to move into the residence hall early for welcome week training. In addition, leaders will receive course credit (3 hours) for the Peer Leader class taken in conjunction with their experience working with new students in the Fine Arts LLC Appreciation class.

Fine Arts LLC Leadership Team

Purpose

The Fine Arts LLC Leadership Team is a group of students who are liaisons between the students and staff in the Fine Arts Living-Learning Center. Under the advisement of the Program Coordinator, the Leadership Team seeks to foster a sense of community through intentional programming and events for the LLC as a whole.

The LLC Leadership team is designed to create a sense of community within the hall and serve as a sounding board to the LLC leadership to assist students in creating a comprehensive fine arts environment. Each LLC team member provides leadership in a certain area of hall living. From designing events, to marketing, to mentoring students, there is something for everyone on the Leadership Team.

Expectations

The Fine Arts LLC Leadership Team is a group of 8-10 students who serve on the team for the entire 2013-2014 school year. The LLC Leadership Team will meet weekly to plan LLC events, discuss student concerns, and consider outreach to all fine arts majors at Baylor.

Requirements/Important Dates

Fine Arts LLC Leadership Team Members are required to participate in the following:

  • Leadership Team Transition Dinner - TBA (April)
  • Leadership Team Transition Ceremony: April 21st, 2013 at the Fine Arts LLC End of the Year Banquet
  • LLC Leadership Team Retreat: August 19 (Morning)
  • Move In Day for the Fine Arts LLC: August 21
  • LLC Leadership Team meetings (weekly): TBD by incoming team
  • Participation/Volunteer at most LLC events

Compensation

Student Leaders will receive t-shirts, jackets, and/or various other items for participating, as well as a chance to move into the residence hall early for the leadership team retreat. Team members will also have the opportunity to positively impact their LLC community and play a significant role in the programming.
