Mission

The mission of the interior design program at Baylor University is to provide a strong, quality undergraduate experience, preparing the individual to serve in a diverse and global marketplace espousing academic excellence and Christian integrity.

Philosophy

Interior design faculty and faculty of supporting disciplines aspire to foster in the student a commitment to designing and improving the built environment with respect and regard for the health, safety, and well-being of all users. Emphasis is placed on:

  • building a sound foundation at the freshman and sophomore level through both a strong knowledge base and hands-on experiences to allow for critical problem-solving and creative expression at the junior and senior level;
  • the design process, placing special emphasis on research as critical to effective problem-solving;
  • a commitment to ethical, responsible design solutions which support the sustainability of the environment from a global perspective;
  • embracing technology in classroom delivery and student production techniques with flexibility and acceptance of change as necessary for the quality and advancement of the educational experience.
