Teaching Certificate in Hospitality, Nutrition and Food Sciences
(Grade Level 8-12) Approved Fall 2005

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree

General Pedagogy Requirement:
TED 1312 Introduction to Teaching
TED 2340 Teaching in the Secondary Schools
FCS 3320 Methods of Teaching Family and Consumer Sciences
FCS 3321 Curriculum and Evaluation
FCS 4623 Student Teaching in Secondary Program

Subject Matter Requirement (addressing Standards I, IV and V. of Family and consumer Sciences Standards, TEA)

FCS 1301 Food Science
FCS 2380 Meal Management
FCS 2351 Nutrition
FCS 3435 Quantity Production
FCS 4340 Resource Management
FCS 4V93 Special Studies (Food Service Management)
MGT 3305 Management
MGT 4336 Personnel/Human Resource Management

25 hours

Total: 43 hrs

A grade of "C" or better in student teaching is required for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Requirements for Student Teaching and a teaching certificate

1. a grade point average of 2.6 overall and in the Family and Consumer Sciences major

2. present acceptable scores on the TExEs (Texas Examination of Educators Standards.

3. acceptable scores on the AAFCS certification exam.
