Faculty & Staff Announcements"From the Top" returns to WacoOct. 30, 2009"From the Top," the preeminent showcase for young musicians, comes to Baylor University on Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall to tape a radio broadcast in its tenth-anniversary season. Presented by KWBU and Baylor University, the NPR broadcast taping, hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley, will feature the amazing performances and captivating personal stories of extraordinary young classical musicians from Texas and beyond.
General admission tickets are $20, available at the Jones Concert Hall box office, located in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. KWBU members, Baylor faculty/staff, and Baylor students receive a $5 discount. Box office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Appearing on the broadcast taping will be 16-year-old violinist and fiddling champ Mia Orosco of Lorena, 15-year-old cellist Nathanial Smith of Brandon, Mississippi, 17-year-old organist Samuel Gaskin of College Station, 18-year-old pianist Vijay Venkatesh of Laguna Niguel, California, and 17-year-old violinist Yurie Mitsuhashi of Fort Lee, New Jersey. In addition, the taping will feature an appearance by a past "From the Top" performer, yet to be named. This is part of a series of alumni spotlights that will air over the course of the program's tenth-anniversary season.
This episode will air nationally the week of December 14 and can be heard Sundays at 2:00 p.m. on KWBU, 103.3 FM.
