| Baylor > Environmental Science > Student Spotlight > Kevin Hermesch |

Kevin Hermesch, an Environmental Science major recently interned with the Environmental Health and Safety Department at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Kevin was able to try his hand at numerous tasks, including inspecting waterlines to ensure that they were clear and keeping labs at correct pressures. His favorite part, however, was dealing with radioactive, biological, and chemical waste.
A New Home
Kevin chose Baylor for several reasons: the beautiful campus, friendly people, scholarship offer, and its location. Kevin, whose hometown is San Antonio, notes that Baylor is "decently close to home, decently far away from home." Although Kevin wanted independence from his parents, he certainly should have been careful what he wished for. Kevin admits that he had a difficult time adjusting, after receiving "too much freedom too fast." The friendly, Christian environment at Baylor helped Kevin become comfortable in his new environment.
Dabbling
Kevin has few specific academic interests; he prefers to try a little of everything. Recently, however, he has focused on geographic information systems and water management. After college, Kevin plans to attend grad school or join the Army Corps of Engineers. Eventually, he hopes to find a career that will allow him to work in the outdoors that he "really loves."
Kevin is not just a Renaissance man when it comes to academics; he dabbles in extracurricular activities as well. In fact, Kevin's biggest surprise since coming to Baylor has been the sheer number of activities available both in and around campus. Kevin participates in intramural football, soccer, and volleyball, as well as being an inactive varsity member of the crew team.
