Heidi Marcum holds a BS in Biology from Tarleton State University and MS degrees in both Biology and Environmental Studies from Baylor University and her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Ms. Marcum has taught many different courses, ranging from introductory environmental studies courses. Ms. Marcum particularly enjoys developing and writing courses that challenge and motivate students, helping them to become more responsible and productive citizens. She has developed such courses that examine wildlife ecology (with an accompanying lab), animal behavior, and animal enrichment.

Ms. Marcum's research interests center on avian responses to human disturbance; she is interested in observing how birds respond to recreationists using the same places. She also studies how human and wild animals interact, and how best to manage wildlife, both in the wild and in urban settings. Ms. Marcum is also interested in animal behavior and enriching the lives of captive animals, to provide them with the best care, which allows them to act more naturally while in captivity. She has researched how to improve the quality of life for many species of captive animals, including sea turtles, snakes and zoo animals.
