Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Writing Center?
We are located on the ground floor of the Carroll Science Building, room G-06.

Can I request a specific tutor?
Yes, you can request a specific tutor in advance (call [254] 710-4849).

Do I need to be an English major to go to the Writing Center?
No. Students of all majors are welcome.

How often can I make an appointment?
You are limited to a half-hour tutoring session per day.

Is there a difference in the tutor's abilities?
No, we are all equally great.

Do you proofread?
No, but we will teach you how to proofread.

Can I come to the Writing Center on a regular basis?
Yes, and though most appointments are for 30 minutes, you may schedule an appointment for up to an hour.

Is the Writing Center open in the summer?
Yes, we are open year-round.

Do I need to schedule a tutoring session in advance?
We recommend that you set up a session in advance (call [254] 710-4849);
however, walk-in tutoring is available.


Are you open on the weekends
No; we have lives, too!

What should I bring to the tutoring session?
Please bring a detailed description of your assignment,
past graded writing assignments, and writing-related questions.


Do you look over personal statements for graduate school applications?
Yes, we will be happy to look at those for you.

Do you help with résumés?
We, and the Career Center, will be glad to help you.
