Service Awards

2013-14 Deadline- March 21,2014

The Office of Community Engagement & Service is pleased to recognize outstanding student & organizational efforts in the area of service & social justice through the following annual awards. Award recipients will be announced and recognized at the Excellence in Student Leadership Awards celebration held at the end of the spring semester.


John S. Belew Award - Outstanding Male in Community Service

The John S. Belew for Outstanding Male Student in Community Service is given annually to a current Baylor male student to provide special recognition for his individual contribution of time, talent and effort in the Waco community.


Virginia Crump Award - Outstanding Female in Community Service

The Virginia Crump Award for Outstanding Female Student in Community Service is given annually to a current Baylor female student to provide special recognition for her individual contribution of time, talent, and effort in the Waco community.


Robert Gilbert Outstanding Advocate Award

The Outstanding Advocate Award is given annually to a current Baylor student, to provide special recognition for his or her leadership as demonstrated through raising awareness and mobilizing the Baylor community around a particular social or global issue.


Outstanding Service Chair Award

The Outstanding Service Chair Award is given annually to a current Baylor student who serves in the office of Service Chair or an equivalent position to provide special recognition for his or her leadership as demonstrated though engaging the organization's members in service, establishing new & innovative service initiatives and fostering a culture of responsible & informed engagement within their organization.


Nomination Process & Form

Students eligible for individual awards must be nominated by a fellow officer/member of her organization, peer, advisor, community member, or other individual who has worked closely with the nominee and can attest to the candidate�s involvement & passion for service or social justice. This award is not self-nominating.

The nominator shall complete the nomination form HERE and return to the Office of Community Engagement & Service either by email to aspen_clemons@baylor.edu or in person at the Martin House (719 Baylor Avenue).

- Once a student has been nominated, they will be notified via email and asked to submit supplementary materials, including a resume complete with details of their volunteer activities.

- Note: Completion of the nomination & follow up process in a timely and professional manner is necessary for consideration for any of the individual service awards.


Organizational Service Awards

A.A. Hyden Award for Outstanding Student Organization in Community Service

The A.A. Hyden Award for Outstanding Student Organization in Community Service is given annually to a student organization to provide special recognition for their valuable contributions of service to the Waco community. This award is given to organizations that have demonstrated excellence in regards to the impact, quality, relationship, context, and learning aspects of service.

Outstanding Student Organization in Education & Advocacy

The Award for Outstanding Student Organization in Education & Advocacy is given annually to a student organization that successfully engages the campus community by generating awareness, support, & positive action toward a particular social issue(s). This award is given to organizations that have demonstrated excellence in regards to engaging in these issues and working collaboratively to make a difference.
