Shopping Matters

Shopping Matters is a program of Share our Strength, a national nonprofit that works to end childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Shopping Matters is a line of stand-alone grocery store tours that help give families the opportunity to learn how to make healthy food choices on a limited budget.

Shopping Matters for Adults

Shopping Matters for Adults brings adults directly to the store for a dynamic learning experience that enables participants to make real changes to their food shopping habits. Though no two tours will be exactly the same, every tour covers these four objectives to ensure that participants are taught key behaviors for making healthy choices on a budget:

-Identify at least three economical ways of purchasing fruits and vegetables
-Practice comparing unit prices
-Practice comparing food labels
-Practice identifying whole grains

Shopping Matters for WIC Parents

Shopping Matters for WIC Parents offers the same hands-on learning opportunities as Shopping Matters for Adults but focuses more specifically on the needs of parents using the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This tour focuses particularly on foods available in the WIC food package and teaches ways to make healthy, affordable choices among these foods.
