Hispanic Families in America
A Study of Literacy and Education
Abstract
All members of our society deserve the opportunity to develop advanced literacy, access to education, and economic security. During the three semesters of this ELG, students will focus on how lack of opportunity, access, and security affects a significant group of people in our local community (and across our country). Ideally, students will choose to spend their fourth semester working with a faculty member on a significant research project related to the topics of this ELG. In addition to our activities on campus, we will spend considerable time in the local community, learning first-hand about how literacy, education, and economic insecurity affect a significant part of our local community, and more importantly, exploring ways we can be part of a solution to these challenges.
