In anticipation of Baylor's appearance in the Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium in Houston - the Bears' first bowl game since 1994 - Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett issued official proclamations today, declaring Dec. 29, 2010, as "Baylor Day" in Houston and "Baylor Bears 2010 Texas Bowl Day" in Harris County.

Baylor University graduate students Xiomara O'Neill, Beatriz Ramos, Andrew Trujillo and Emilie Ventura have been awarded scholarships from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health to support bilingual mental health services in Texas. All are students in the Baylor School of Social Work.

Baylor University has accepted an invitation to play in the 2010 Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium in Houston, snapping a 16-year bowl drought for the Bears football program. Baylor will face Illinois from the Big 10 Conference at 5 p.m. CST Wednesday, Dec. 29. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN.

Beloved alumna, retired professor and lifelong friend of Baylor University, Sadie Jo Black of Waco, Texas, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, at the age of 80. A rare individual, whose commitment to the beautification of Baylor's campus was matched only by her desire to support Baylor students, Sadie Jo Black's presence and influence will continue to be felt by the Baylor family for generations to come.

Following a month of reflection initiated by Baylor University Provost Elizabeth Davis in her essay, "Envisioning Our Future," faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of Baylor are now being invited to provide input to inform the direction of the university's next 10-year strategic plan. The community input portion of the strategic planning exercise will run from December 2010 through April 2011.
