Established in 1969, the Founders Medal is reserved for men and women whose service and contributions have been unusually significant to the life and future of the University. These 'founders' are widely known as Baylor supporters among their friends and associates. Recipients are awarded a bronze medallion and are honored in a Founder's Day ceremony where they are presented with a formal citation. Honorees are also invited to be the special guests at several events during Baylor's Homecoming celebration. One copy of each medal is on permanent exhibition in the National Numismatic Collection in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
