Abiola Wabara Senior Spanish Major Parma, Italy
“I had never been in an American school—it was a different experience. Baylor was a nice environment with everyone smiling and saying 'hi.'”
Abiola Wabara, a senior Spanish major from Parma, Italy, dreamed of coming to the United States to play basketball. She never realized those dreams would be achieved and exceeded at Baylor University.
Abiola first came to Baylor on vacation to visit her relatives in Waco. “I was walking around campus, and I liked what I saw,” Abiola explained. “Then, I had the chance to talk with Coach Mulkey, and she liked what she saw, so she recruited me.”
Abiola’s dreams to play basketball in the United States became a reality as she was a key contributor to the Lady Bears’ national championship in 2005. “It’s been great,” Abiola said. “I’m still caught up in it. I don’t think I’ve realized we actually won a national championship because we had such a perfect season.”
Gifts to Baylor Fund support all aspects of a Baylor education, from athletic excellence funds to departmental scholarships. Abiola appreciates those who have given to Baylor Fund for everything they’ve provided to enhance her Baylor experience. “They’ve made it better. They make it easier for students to just be students and not worry about anything else,” Abiola said.
