What is Marsh Madness doing this semester (Fall 2011)?
We are bringing all the juniors in the GEAR UP program to a visit to the Baylor University campus. Students arrive at 9:00 AM and they are given a typical freshman biology class lecture by Dr. Robert Doyle, the director of CRASR and chair of the biology department who also teaches freshman students. Then students play an interactive College Myth Busters game where they learn about the three colleges in Waco: Baylor University, Texas State Technical College Waco (TSTC) and McLennan Community College (MCC). After that the students walk over to Penland Residence Hall to eat lunch. After lunch, the students go on a full campus tour of Baylor University provided by Campus Visits. After the tour, the students are given a College Admissions Presentation with a College Readiness Panel and also they get to interact with members of the Baylor University Cultural Ambassadors (BUCA) and also with admissions counselors. The field trips usually last from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Here are the specific dates:
AJ Moore Academy: September 20, 22, 27, 29
La Vega High: October: October 11,13,18,20
Waco High: October 4, 6, 25; November 8, 10, 15
University High: October 27; November 1, 3, 17, 29; December 1
