Mask requirement begins Monday for Baylor University

June 21, 2020

Baylor Faculty, Staff and Students:

Today we are announcing an important public safety measure as we continue to see an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases within the Waco area. Effective Monday (June 22, 2020), face coverings are required to be worn by all individuals (faculty, staff, students and visitors) in all buildings on the Baylor campus.

This requirement - a vital part of our many COVID-19 mitigation efforts - is consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about face coverings, and with our previous communication regarding the "Swiss Cheese Model." This layering of strategies to prevent COVID-19 spread includes handwashing, cleaning and disinfecting, and maintaining social distance between other people.

Wearing a face covering is not a replacement for these COVID-19 preventive measures, and we highly encourage the campus community to continue to practice these healthy habits. Face coverings may include commercially available or homemade masks, scarfs, bandanas or handkerchiefs.

Please note that face coverings will not be required when:

  • unsafe due to an individual's medical condition;
  • working alone;
  • alone inside an individual office; or
  • eating/drinking.

We appreciate your adherence to this important public safety measure. Additional University guidance regarding face coverings and other COVID-19 safety measures will be forthcoming. For questions, please visit www.baylor.edu/coronavirus or email coronavirus@baylor.edu.
