The focus of his research is to understand how networks promote and/or constrain the diffusion of information and diseases through populations. A major project in this respect aims to explain how integrative processes in "problem-focused" areas of science contributed to by multiple disciplines functionally construct and permeate knowledge boundaries. In this presentation he will draw on the social scientific study of religion as one case to demonstrate how differences in those integrative processes can have important implications for the production and use of knowledge within the field.
