SUMMARY:Emory University STEM Research and Career Symposium
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:=0D=0A=
  THE SYMPOSIUM=0D=0A=
  http://gs.emory.edu/StemRCSymposium=0D=0A=
  This event is an exciting new opportunity for your undergraduate and graduate students to present their research, =0D=0A=
  to further their professional development, and to learn about careers in the STEM disciplines. The event consists of:=0D=0A=
  =0D=0A=
    A premier research conference for undergraduates interested in learning about PhD, MD/PhD or postbaccalaureate programs; graduate students contemplating postdoctoral training; and the advisors of these students.=0D=0A=
    Two days of shared research presentations, networking and mentoring. Eight students will present platform talks and the rest will present posters.=0D=0A=
    Professional Development workshops, campus tours, and individual meetings with potential Emory mentors.=0D=0A=
    Extensive interactions with Emory research faculty mentors, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Thursday evening will feature a mixer with bowling, pool and stimulating discussion among participants and their hosts.=0D=0A=
  =0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
  PARTICIPANTS=0D=0A=
  We invite participation by research advisors, undergraduates interested in postbaccalaureate, Ph.D, or M.D./Ph.D. =0D=0A=
  studies, and graduate students pursuing postdoctoral training in the STEM disciplines. We are also particularly =0D=0A=
  interested in identifying students from underrepresented groups who are not currently in an organized program =0D=0A=
  such as MARC, REU, RISE, or PREP and who might therefore benefit the most from this conference. =0D=0A=
   =0D=0A=
  All student participants will be expected to present a platform talk or a poster on their research. If faculty =0D=0A=
  wish to attend along with their student(s), please let us know and we will inform you when your students have been accepted. =0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
  COSTS=0D=0A=
  There is no charge for this conference and all meals will be provided. Hotel accommodations are available at the =0D=0A=
  Emory Conference Center at $129 plus tax per night, double occupancy. Additional =0D=0A=
  rooms MAY be available at the adjacent Emory Inn =0D=0A=
  for $79 plus tax per night. Because Travel Awards are limited we encourage students to seek funding from their =0D=0A=
  sponsored research program or other sources.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
  TRAVEL AWARDS=0D=0A=
  The eight students selected to present a platform talk and their advisors will receive a travel award (if necessary). =0D=0A=
  In addition, a limited number of travel awards are available for students from underrepresented groups (racial minorities, =0D=0A=
  disabled students and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds). These awards will cover travel and accommodations.=0D=0A=
 =0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
  APPLICATION=0D=0A=
  Apply here=0D=0A=
  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. The application deadline is January 15th for students wishing to apply for =0D=0A=
  travel awards. A committee of Emory training faculty will review abstracts to select participants and travel awardees. =0D=0A=
  Awardees will be notified by January 31st. All student participants will be expected to present a platform talk or a poster on their research.=0D=0A=

  stem.symposia@emory.edu=0D=0A=
  Someone from our organizing committee will contact you shortly and they can answer any questions you might have. In the interim, =0D=0A=
  a number of URLs are attached that can give you a great deal of information about Emory and the training opportunities available.=0D=0A=
  =0D=0A=
  We look forward to hearing from you and your students.=0D=0A=
