SUMMARY:2012 Fall Physics Colloquium Series: Dr. Andy White
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Andy White, Ph.D.=0D=0A=
Professor, University of Texas at Arlington=0D=0A=
The International Linear Collider Project=0D=0A=
This talk will present the status of the International Linear Collider Project: physics, accelerator, and detectors. The ILC presents an excellent opportunity to carry out precision measurements of the Higgs Boson(s),and other possible new particles at the TeV scale, and to make discoveries in the same energy range. The ILC accelerator design has reached a mature level and the ILC is the only lepton collider for which a construction start could be made in the short to medium term. Details of the design, acceleration gradients achieved and projected deliverable luminosity will be presented in the=0D=0A=
context of the soon-to-be-completed Technical Design Report. The two validated detector concepts, SiD and ILD, will be presented. Their=0D=0A=
advanced designs are based on the Particle Flow Algorithm approach to achieving precise jet energy resolution. The design concepts are working=0D=0A=
towards completion of their respective Detailed Baseline Design reports, which will include studies of critical physics processes at 500 GeV and 1 TeV. Possible sites for the ILC will be discussed, with emphasis on those in Japan which are receiving a high level of current interest.=0D=0A=
