DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Optical sensors are nearly complete systems for autonomous navigation near planets, moons, and asteroids.  The range of applications is increasing with smaller and lower cost systems developing that are capable of on board processing.  A brief survey of optical instrumentation is presented with a detailed error budget and algorithms for position and attitude determination. Biography of Speaker:=0D=0A=
E. Glenn Lightsey has twenty years of experience as a designer of navigation and control systems and sensor platforms for spacecraft.  He is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, and was previously employed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.  Dr. Lightsey has performed navigation research for many spacecraft including the International Space Station, and has received awards for technical accomplishments.  Dr. Lightsey received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1997, and joined the University of Texas at Austin faculty in 1999.
