Baylor University Hunger Summit Aims to End Hunger in Texas

Texas has plenty of food to go around.Yet it is the third hungriest state in the nation, with an estimated 1.3 million Texas residents going hungry daily. A Nov. 19 summit at Baylor University will look at ways to end hunger.

Baylor University Law Professor Jeremy Counseller will deliver the keynote address at Baylor Law School's commencement exercises at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Miller Chapel. Additionally, Philip Haines, the highest ranking student in the commencement class, will deliver remarks. Baylor Interim President David Garland also will participate in the program and will award juris doctor degrees to 12 graduates.

Baylor Professor Wins Award for Book on Mark Twain

Dr. Joe Fulton, professor of English at Baylor University, has been named winner of the 2010 Jules and Frances Landry Award for Best Book on Southern studies for The Reconstruction of Mark Twain. The book is a radical reappraisal of Twain and his evolving political allegiances and writings during and after the Civil War.

Unique Partnership Creates Region's First Research Park

A symbolic shift from 20th century manufacturing to 21st century technology took place Oct. 23 with the announcement of plans to turn a long-shuttered manufacturing plant into a modern research collaborative. A group of state, county and city governments and organizations and higher educational institutions in Central Texas announced the creation of the Central Texas Research and Technology Park, and the park's first project, the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) to be housed in the former General Tire facility on South Loop Drive in Waco.
