President's Note

I would like to let you know what a privilege it is to serve as your interim president. I appreciate and am humbled by the trust placed in me by the Baylor family.
This week I was asked by a media outlet about my priorities as interim president. I told the reporter that my first priority was to listen carefully to the many groups I will meet with here on campus as well as those I will visit with outside of Waco. There is much wisdom to be gained from conversations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and friends. Our fall faculty meeting was a great way to begin. In fact, in all the discussions that I've had in the last few days I can tell you that it is already clear to me that every part of the Baylor family is committed to moving our university forward. I will do my part to assist that process until a permanent president is selected and I invite your support and active participation.

New Class Tops 3000 Students

Move-in hit campus Wednesday and Thursday as the incoming Class of 2012 arrived for Welcome Week. Parents were very appreciative of the support from the hundreds of staff, faculty and other students who enthusiastically welcomed our new student s and helped unload the cars and haul the belongings to the waiting rooms.

This is expected to be our second largest class in history, and the third consecutive year SAT scores have averaged above 1200. Minority enrollment set a new record at 31 percent of the incoming freshman class.

Baylor slips one spot in New U.S. News Rankings; 3rd Highest in Big 12

Those of us who work at Baylor know of the high caliber faculty and students we have here. But it is important that others know about it too. To that end, it is gratifying to see Baylor ranked highly in a number of national programs. The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings list Baylor at No. 76 out of more than 1,400 universities.

Baylor slipped one spot from last year and stands alone at 76, behind five other universities that are tied in the rankings at 71.

In the Big 12, only Texas and Texas A&M are ahead of us, as Baylor ranks higher than Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

At the Hankamer School of Business our entrepreneurship program was ranked 14th while our undergraduate engineering program comes in at 21 among non-doctoral granting institutions.
