E-NEWSLETTER OF THE BAYLOR PARENTS LEAGUE
December 2010
parents_league_email-from_the_director Judy Maggard It's a very special time for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord. And even now, as students wrap up the semester with finals, Baylor's campus is alive with the spirit of Christmas.

As we meditate on the meaning of the season, we also are preparing for the new year and want to draw your attention to a couple of important items. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Parents Fund, Baylor will provide a new disability shuttle to students who need assistance traveling between classes. We also find that a review of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is helpful this time of year as your student's grades are finalized. Finally, we are proud to know that our Baylor Bears will be playing in the Texas Bowl. Please click on the graphic below for helpful information about attending the game.

On behalf of the Baylor family, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We are blessed to be able to serve you--Baylor parents--and look forward to embarking on another journey next semester.

FERPA and the Journey into Adulthood

SummerAs a parent, it is often difficult to cope with your child's transition into adulthood--the era when decisions are made without your input and privacy laws begin to inhibit even you from your child's records. But there is hope.

Healthy communication with your student reveals the details guarded by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), while still honoring the law, and builds a strong foundation for an adult relationship with your child.

Driving students to reach their goals

BRICTests. Deadlines. Grades. Friends. These are the important forces competing for your student's attention. The last thing students should have to think about is how to get to class. For those who have a temporary disability due to injury, surgery or other circumstances, the Department of Student Activities can assist with transportation around campus.
