E-NEWSLETTER OF THE BAYLOR PARENTS LEAGUE
OCTOBER 2010
Judy Maggard Even though the fall semester is just now settling into a rhythm, students are being asked to think about course selections for next semester. Meetings with advisors will be scheduled soon. Our lead article has timely information about the making of a class schedule that will best benefit your student. This is a good time to talk with your student about classes and goal setting.

From the moment Judge Starr arrived in June, he has made a significant impact on the campus community. Inaugural activities and the announcement of a $100 million scholarship initiative to address the rising cost of a Baylor education have provided a glimpse into his character and leadership.

I sincerely hope that you will take time to read this issue of Perspectives in its entirety. It is important to us that you are knowledgeable about the Baylor community and the issues that affect your student. In fact, we would like to hear feedback from you. Please take a moment to complete our online survey which will help us as we work to keep you informed. We want your experience as a Baylor parent to be both positive and meaningful as you support and encourage your sons and daughters in their Baylor journey.

Mayday! It's a Class Overload! Perspectives September 2010 2

Excellence requires determination, discipline…and sleep. But when your student feels up to the ears in coursework and
extra-curricular demands, how can he or she possibly achieve excellence? Students often feel like they are giving everything, but remain unable to keep up with the fast pace of college.

Chances are, it's time to revisit their class schedule. By using tools offered on the Baylor website and watching for red flags in your student's life, you can guide your student toward excellence by, together, developing a schedule for next semester that meets the necessary requirements without overloading the semester.

Celebrating Outstanding Parents

It takes a big heart and a big vision to care not only for your own family's needs, but also for the needs of others. And that's why it gives us such pleasure to honor Max and Debbie Underwood as Baylor University Parents of the Year for 2010.

A Presidential Occasion

An event as profound and celebratory as a Presidential Inauguration occurs sporadically in the life of an institution. As only the 14th President of Baylor University, the occasion of President Ken Starr's Inauguration called for a vibrant and meaningful celebration. Here, we highlight just a few of the memorable events.
