Speech Communication minors are usually preparing for professional careers in corporate communication, law, teaching or the ministry.


Rhetoric and Argumentation

Speech Communication majors are usually preparing for professional careers in corporate communication, law, teaching or the ministry. Instruction is offered in the areas of rhetoric and public discourse, organizational communication, and argumentation and debate.

Eighteen semester hours from the following:

  • CSS 1301 or 1302, 1304, 3305, 3307, 3316, 3393, 4310, 4351, 4352, 4353, 4394, 4396, 4397
  • At least twelve of the eighteen semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level.


Corporate Communication Minor

Combines courses in the Speech Division and the Film and Digital Media Division of the Communication Studies Department to prepare students for a broad range of communication-related positions in corporate, government, educational, and medical organizations.

Eighteen semester hours including the following:

  • CSS 4301 and (FDM 3372 or 3373 or 3374)
  • Four courses from CSS 1302, 3304, 3305, 3306, 3307, 3311, 3312, 3316, 4302, 4306, 4311, 4312, 4352, 4V85; any FDM Courses 
  • At least nine of the eighteen semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level.
