John Cunningham Vitae 2009

  • B.A., The University of Southern California
  • M.A., Purdue University

I was born and raised in San Diego, California and still consider it "home." God has blessed me with a wonderful wife named Gena who has a heart of gold and a personality to match- not to mention she’s quite a "hottie".  I have two stepdaughters. Kassie, 24, graduated from Baylor in August of 2008 and is currently applying to PhD. programs in Archaeology. Jordan, 18, is a senior at Midway High School and (GOD willing) a future Baylor student. I also have 6 wonderful dogs, 5 that live with me (Max, Ally, Peanut, Dakota and Madison) and 1, Kayleigh, that watches over my family every day from heaven (along with her cousin Yahtzee) as our guardian angel. And if dogs don't go to heaven, then when I die, I want to go wherever they go. One of my favorite quotes is "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." Not to leave out my cats. We have one cat that lives with us (Tyler) and three that watch over us (Crewser, Rookie and Cookie) with Kayleigh and Yahtzee. God has blessed me with a passion to teach, speak for, and write about dogs. I teach them as a dog trainer at PETsMART. I advocate for them as a member of the Waco Animal Shelter's Board of Directors. I write about them in children's books and movie screenplays. I also love marine life and one of the highlights of my life thus far was visiting Keiko, the whale made famous from the Free Willy movies, in Iceland several years ago. I am a huge sports’ fan and while I love Baylor sports, my heart bleeds USC's cardinal and gold. I have six USC graduates in my family. Go Charger's and Padres, too! I love to be outdoors, especially taking long walks with the dogs. If I could live anywhere, I'd pack up the entire family and move to a small town in Montana and live life looking at majestic mountains and pristine lakes every day. Of course, I love Baylor and the people I work with here, so I'm not going anywhere any time soon.
