Faculty

Baylor faculty are encouraged to attend each graduation ceremony and march in the processional to show support and encouragement to the graduates. Faculty who will march should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.

Members of the faculty should enter the parking lot on the LaSalle Street side. Faculty usually will robe in the Stone Reception Room, which is a concourse-level room that may be accessed from outside doors to the rear of the Whetsel Practice Facility or from the main concourse.

Some faculty are involved with the ceremony by serving as ushers for guests. Others serve as marshals, helping line graduates up correctly for the processional and assisting them through the diploma presentation. Faculty interested in serving in one of these capacities should contact Lois Ferguson (Lois_Ferguson@Baylor.edu or call 254-710-8234) for names of chief ushers and chief marshals.

All faculty at the ceremony are asked to greet graduates in their discipline after the students have walked across the stage and photos have been made. Faculty will form a line with their backs to the audience, facing the students seated on the floor, allowing them to greet students as they walk back to their seats. Faculty should feel free to move from their seats to the greeting area as often as needed.

The greeting area must remain neat and orderly to properly greet students and faculty must remain well away from the photography area used by Flash.

For faculty needing regalia to wear, the Baylor Bookstore will order rental regalia. Faculty are encouraged to order at least two weeks prior to the ceremony to avoid rush charges.

The Retired Faculty Center has some regalia available for loan. Contact the Retired Faculty office at 254-710-6308 to arrange for the use of loaned regalia. The loaner closet is growing and they can accommodate a number of requests at each graduation.
