Wireless Internet Coming to all Residence Halls

In response to student feedback on the importance of wireless access across all residence halls, Vice Presidents Dr. Kevin Jackson and Pattie Orr were able to secure funding to allow wireless Internet (WiFi) to be installed in those halls currently without access.

Beginning mid-October, a team of ITS and Campus Living & Learning staff began the process of installing wireless technology, working mostly in the afternoon hours.

Initially, installation will focus on a those halls likely to be renovated further in the future: Alexander Hall, Memorial Hall, Allen Hall, Dawson Hall, and Kokernot Hall. The following year, Collins Hall, Penland Hall, North Russell and Martin Hall will be completed. South Russell will reopen in the fall of 2014 with wireless access installed after refurbishment is completed.

We thank our students for their positive and polite communication of the importance of wireless access across all residence halls and the willingness of Vice Presidents Pattie Orr and Dr. Kevin Jackson to make this a funding priority.
