This view of the courtyard of the North residential building (the future home of Engineering-Computer Science Residential College) is from the corner of 3rd and Bagby—future location of the East Village Heritage Tree. In the left corner of the courtyard, the wooden wall section will be the glass and stone entry to the North lobby.

The first floor of the South residential building, looking toward the lobby, begins to take significant shape with sheetrocking, door frames, HVAC ductwork, and other mechanical systems

July 5, 2012 | Bagby Avenue Sewer Work Leads to Temporary Street Closure

Bagby Avenue between Second and Fourth streets will close to thru traffic starting Monday July 9 so crews can begin underground sewer work associated with the new East Village Residential Community. The work is expected to last for approximately one week.

Traffic will be detoured around this area on Daughtrey Avenue. Please note that access to campus via Speight Avenue and/or Fourth Street will not be affected by this work.

Bagby Avenue is scheduled to re-open to thru traffic as soon as the work is completed, but no later than Monday July 23.

May 8, 2012 | Parking Lot Closures Due to Construction

Due to continuing construction on the east side of the Baylor campus, crews will close two parking lots and portions of Speight Avenue and Third Street on Monday, May 14. The parking lots and streets are scheduled to reopen Aug. 13 before the fall semester begins.

• Portions of Lot 50, which services the Goebel Building and Russell Gym, and the parking lot behind Goebel and Russell will be closed. Lot 42 by the Sid Richardson Building, which closed in March, will remain unavailable during the summer.

• Third Street will be closed to through traffic from Baylor Avenue (on the west side of Moody Library) to Speight Avenue, while Speight will be closed to through traffic between Guittard Avenue and the entrance to Lot 50 off of Speight.

• During June and July, the remaining homes in the Fort Faculty area will be vacated and demolished. Crews will install additional fencing and barricades in and around Fort Faculty to allow for continued work in this area.

These closures – which are required in order for work to be safely performed in these areas – will allow crews to continue the installation of new utilities from the Baylor Energy Complex to the under-construction East Village Residential Community, relocate existing utilities and begin new construction to extend and re-align Third Street from Moody Library to Bagby Avenue.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

March 7, 2012 | Bagby Traffic Control Plan Approved

By the end of the week of spring break, the stretch of Bagby between 2nd - 4th Street will have 2 lanes going south and 1 lane going north.

February 22, 2012 | Safety and Schedule Updates

Safety Updates

• 4th Street sidewalk completed and appears to be in good use.

• In addition to previous lowering of windscreen on the 2nd St. side of the construction fence, it has now been rolled down for better vision at both sides of 4th St. crossing.

• Bagby Avenue lane closure – City has reviewed and approved the modified Traffic Control Plan. As soon as the box culvert is 100%, this should be opened to 2 lanes going south and 1 lane going north.

Schedule Updates

• Bagby/Speight intersection paving was completed and the intersection reopened to 2-way traffic on 2/14.

• Bagby Ave waste water line adjustment – This project will affect the center lane of Bagby as well as 4 of the rented houses inside “Fort Faculty.” It was originally targeted to be done this summer after the houses are vacated and when Bagby traffic (closing or modifying) would be less affected. However, they are now wanting to do this sooner, so they are working to coordinate brief disruptions to the house renters in order to try to do this during spring break, March 10-16.

December 15, 2011 | Semi-Permanent Road Closure

Construction on the East Village will require the full closure of the intersection at 3rd and Bagby. The intersection is planned to be closed to for the duration of the project and should re-open at the start fo the Fall 2013 semester. In addition, Bagby Avenue will be reduced to one westbound travel lane and one eastbound travel lane between 2nd and 4th streets until the end of construction.

Site fencing has been installed at the perimeter of the new East Village Residential Community site along Bagby between 4th and 5th streets. This lot will serve as the staging area for the East Village contractors.
