Residential Programs

Engaged Learning Groups(ELGs)
are a way for new students at
Baylor to experience the
relationship between living and
learning. They are communities that
consist of freshmen students living
together in a designated area and
exploring challenging topics from an
interdisciplinary perspective.

Living-Learning Centers(LLCs)
are residential communities that range
in size and are organized by academic
discipline or program. As part of the
emphasis on community, residents share
common cohort courses specific to their
program. Other academic services are
provided in the program's residence hall.
Baylor's LLCs are open to freshmen through
seniors, and students may remain in an LLC
throughout their time at Baylor.

Residential Colleges
are designed to provide a culture that fosters
academic excellence, intensive faculty-student
interaction and rich culture steeped in Baylor
tradition. Baylor's Residential Colleges are open
to freshmen through seniors.

Engaged Learning Groups (ELGs)

Approximately 40 students in each ELG explore
important and creative topics for at least three
semesters with a team of faculty who have
competed to have their topic selected. Students
earn credit toward most degree plans, and
sophomores may complete an optional fourth
semester capstone research project.

Beginning its third year at Baylor in fall 2009,
previous Engaged Learning Groups have
researched topics such as the global community,
film and global culture, entrepreneurship and
creative leadership, and Christian narratives.
Topics change each fall. This year's topics
include: global poverty, Hispanic families
in America, women in America, energy and
society, and human social structure and
behavior (sociology).

ELG students are the exclusive residents
of the newly renovated Kokernot Hall, which
includes male and female halves of the
building connected by a shared lobby,
study areas, community areas, a
high-tech classroom and living
quarters for faculty-in-residence.

ELG Website.
