Baylor Internationals in the Schools Program

Baylor Internationals in the Schools Program provides opportunities for Baylor international students to go into local elementary and middle schools to speak and answer questions about their countries. The school visits provide a unique cultural experience for Internationals to contribute to the younger students' knowledge of the world, and quite possibly inspire individuals to learn a new language or study abroad in the future. Everyone who participates enjoys the experience.

Who can participate? Any Baylor International can participate.

What is expected? You will be asked to talk about your country for 5-10 minutes to a classroom of about 25 students. Then the students will ask you questions. If you would like, you can teach the students a few words in your language or ask them questions. You can take with you photos or items unique to your country; but this is not required.

Where would I go? You will visit a local school which has requested to have a Baylor International come and visit. The Office of International Programs is a Partner in Education with Carver Academy. It is a middle school made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grades including children ages 11, 12 and 13 years old. Carver Academy encourages its students to learn about other cultures and to welcome Internationals to their school.

How would I get there? Transportation will be furnished by the requesting school or the Office of International Programs.

When would I go? You would go at a time during hte semester which works well with your class schedule. Mrs. Beth Walker will e-mail an invitation to Internationals from a local school with the date, time and length of the visit. If your schedule permits you to go, simply reply to the e-mail.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn and teach!
For more information contact Beth Walker in the Office of International Programs, Poage Library, first floor, e-mail her at Beth_Walker@baylor.edu or call her at 710-4825.
