International Student and Scholar Services

International Student and Scholar Services provides orientation and immigration services for incoming international students and scholars as well as facilitation and advocacy for Baylor's study abroad and exchange programs. During the fall 2011 semester, over 500 international students and scholars from 73 countries were present on the Baylor campus, and during the past academic year, more than 850 American Baylor students participated in Baylor's over 35 outgoing study abroad and exchange programs.

The office of International Student and Scholar Services is located on the second floor of the W.R. Poage Legislative Library on the Baylor campus. Contact information follows:

Ms. Alexine Burke, International Student Advisor, coordinates orientation for new international students; issues a variety of documents related to enrollment and immigration status maintenance at Baylor; serves as liaison between international students and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service; counsels students regarding personal, financial, academic, or immigration problems; and serves as an advocate for international students to various campus offices.

Ms. Melanie Smith, International Student Relations Coordinator, coordinates the "Welcome Family" program to bring together Baylor international students and Waco families for friendship. PAWS (People Around the World Sharing) helps Baylor international students and U.S. students meet each other and enjoy cultural exchange and friendship through PAWS Partners. The coordinator also directs Welcome PAWS to help international students upon arrival in Waco and coordinates the Baylor Adopt A School with Waco ISD which takes international students into Waco schools to speak about their countries and enjoy question and answer sessions with local students.

Ms. Treva Hall, SEVIS Coordinator, handles varied administrative duties for the office and coordinates SEVIS compliance. Maintains the data base system for all international students, and interacts with faculty, administrative personnel, students, visitors.

Ms. Alexia English, Administrative Associate, evaluates and approves on-campus employment requests, issues Social Security letters to qualifying students, processes I-20s for new students, tranfers, OPT, CPT, program extension, reinstatement, dependents, and change of status. Also handles a variety of other administrative duties.

Ms. Leslie Hicks, Administrative Associate, assists students with questions and concerns regarding change of address, work study, and other forms related to immigration matters. Creates letters of invitation and good standing upon student's request.
