Prof. Michael D. Morrison

Professor Morrison has been a member of the Baylor Law School faculty since 1977. In 1997, he was designated an Outstanding Professor and has recently served as chief of staff for Interim President Bill Underwood and former Baylor President John M. Lilley.

Professor Morrison earned a B.A. with high honors majoring in Psychology in 1971 and a J.D. in 1974, both from the University of Oklahoma where, among other honors, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, served as Note Editor of the Oklahoma Law Review, was elected by the law faculty to the Order of the Coif, and was chosen as the Outstanding Law Student for 1974 by the Oklahoma Bar Association. He is admitted to practice law in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, as well as the United States Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the federal courts in Texas and Oklahoma. He has been recognized by his peers through election as a fellow of both the Texas and the American Bar Foundations. He has taught a variety of courses including Torts, Water Law, Jurisprudence, Remedies, Municipal Government, and Immigration Law, in addition to participating in and leading international continuing legal education programs involving the study of foreign legal systems.

Professionally, he has been involved, along with Professor David Guinn, in the redistricting of state and local governmental entities since 1978. In addition to cities, counties, and school districts, his clients have included the Lt. Governor of Texas, the Texas Senate Jurisprudence Committee, the Texas Legislative Council and the Texas Secretary of State. Additionally, he was elected to the Waco City Council in 1994 and then to two terms as Mayor of Waco from 1996-2000.

Professor Morrison and his wife, Nancy, who is a practicing attorney with the firm of Naman, Howell, Smith and Lee, are both ordained Elders and members of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco. Together they have three children, Sam, Matt, who married the former Leigh Livesay, and Amy, along with two grandchildren, Will and Ellen. All totaled, there are seven Baylor degrees in the immediate family.
