Student Leadership
Berry Benson is a Graduate Student at Baylor University majoring in Sports Management. He is originally from Amarillo, Texas and has 13 brothers and sisters. Within the last year another was added, his wife, Tiffanie Benson. During his undergrad years at Baylor, Berry was involved with Men of Valor, Intramurals, Association of Black Students, and Greater New Light Baptist Church Youth Leaders. Currently he works at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco, TX as the Athletic Coordinator for a newly developed competitive athletic program. Berry has worked at Kids Across America in Golden, Missouri for 3 summers. KAA is an urban youth sports summer camp designed to reach inner-city youth of our nation with the love and power of Jesus. Their mission is to build leaders by encouraging, equipping, and empowering urban youth and their mentors through Christian sports camping. His favorite camp by far is the Christian Leadership Institute. He has been a counselor here for 5 years, going on 6!!!
Berry loves to laugh (good for the soul), listen to Christian Hip Hop, get into deep, meaningful conversations with others and then laugh some more (its good for you soul ;-). Oftentimes, he can be found hoopin' in the SLC gym or out on the town with his wife. If not that, he will be found watching a Dreamworks Movie, usually either Kung Fu Panda or the Incredibles...one day he'll have a family like that one...YEAH!!!
Hi! My name is Bethany Northern. I am going to be a senior this fall, majoring in Social Work. One of my many passions is helping and serving people.
I was born in Houston, Texas but have spent most of my life here in Waco! I have an older sister who is so compassionate and simple-hearted, and a younger brother who will be playing football for Baylor in the fall! My parents are wonderful and I love spending time with my family.
I love to travel. I have been blessed enough to take several mission trips to countries around the world including Namibia, South Africa; Tanzania, Africa; Honduras; Costa Rica; and Northern England. Another one of my passions is helping those who are less fortunate than me and who also happen to live in poverty stricken areas. I enjoy doing anything and everything outdoors and adventurous. Oh yeah, and sports!
I was privileged enough to be a part of the first ever CLI! This will be my second year to serve as a leader. Sic Em'!
p.s. Kim was my PE coach in Elementary School :)
Travis Cowley is a junior at Baylor University majoring in Health Science Studies with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy. He is from Shreveport, LA, where his father is a physical therapist and his mother is a nurse for The Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Travis spent two summers working for Rock Solid Sports Camps, a Christian sports/day camp in Shreveport. He was a counselor for 10-14 year old boy this first summer and worked as part of the leadership team, in charge of LITs (Leaders In Training), his second summer. He has also spent the past year working in Student Activities at Baylor as a part of the Campus Program Center.
Travis is a member of Phi Kappa Chi where he has been able to take on a number of leadership roles. These roles include Brotherhood Chair, Intramurals Chair, Sing Chair for 2 years, and External VP.
Travis enjoys hanging out with friends, playing any and all sports, picking around on his guitar, and whistling like a bird. He is passionate about living life with people, through good and bad, and encouraging others to be the best they can be.
Hey! My name is Jessica Evans; I am going to be a senior this fall and I am majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Communication Studies.
I was born and raised in Mesquite, the "Rodeo Capital of Texas," a suburb just east of Dallas! I am blessed with two amazing parents and 3 younger siblings: Lauren, 19 a former CLI'er who will be a sophomore at MCC this fall, Jared, 17 (SENIOR!), and Cristan an 11 year old chatter box.
This past fall I got to live a dream when I became a White House Intern!!! (It was truly the most incredible thing I have ever done.) I absolutely LOVE President Bush and after he leaves office in 2009 I plan to work for him once he and Laura move back to Texas.
While here at school I work for Baylor's Career Services. I am also a member of Baylor College Republicans and Young Conservatives of Texas. Since moving back from DC I have been attending the Heart of Texas Cowboy Church. I love drinking slurpees, playing with my dogs and talking politics!
This will be my 2nd year to help lead! I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the first 2 CLIs in 2003 and 2004 where I made incredible friendships that I still treasure today. I am so thrilled to get to share the experiences I had at CLI and observe how your time here makes your life more fruitful. I look forward to being an instrument in utilizing your potential to be a better leader. Have a great week!
Jose Bolanosis a sophomore at Baylor University majoring in business. He is from San Antonio, Texas and has 1 brother and 2 sisters. His siblings attend UT Arlington, TCU, and aTm so there is some constant rivalry.
He attended CLI before his senior year of high school and this will be his first time being a part of CLI as a counselor. He will also be a line camp leader for incoming freshmen later this summer and a welcome week leader for freshmen the week before school starts. He is pretty competitive and loves to play sports or work out any chance he gets. So, chances are that you can find him in the SLC hoopin', workin out, or doing something in there. He also works as a referee for intramurals so when he isn't participating you will probably see him up there keeping games in order.
Jose loves to chill and listen to music when he is not out doing something active. Chances are if you sneak up on him you will hear christian hip hop or some oldies (most likely the Jackson 5 or The Temptations 'cause they hold it down).
Salute! Crystal Lee Brewster is a graduate student studying Sports Management. She is from lovely Tyler, Texas, the rose capital of the world. She graduated from Baylor in spring of 2008 with a degree in Outdoor Recreation and Leisure Services. She enjoys sports and recreation such as flying kites, playing ultimate Frisbee, pick-up games of basketball, sand volleyball, and riding bikes. She attended Arp High School where she played volleyball, basketball, softball, golf, track, and ran cross country. She plays the trumpet and loves any type of arts and crafts; friendship bracelets and tie dye are her specialty.
For a Crystal, a perfect day would be 75 degrees and she would be spending time with her friends and family on a large porch with sweet tea, homemade cookies, good conversation, all while staring out at God's beautiful creation. One day, when Crystal "grows up" she hopes to pursue a career in recreation at the college level.
This will be Crystal's 1st year with CLI, and she is very excited for it. She has spent her last four summers in Van, Texas working at Sky Ranch. She is eager for the good friendships and inner growth that are sure to ensue this summer!

Hey! My name is Emma Perry. I will be a sophomore this fall, and I am a University Scholars major. I am currently interested in concentrating my studies around psychology and philosophy. I was raised in a suburb until about the age of ten, when I moved out to the tiny little town of Italy, Texas. (Yes, I get a kick out of telling people I'm from "Italy.") I am the third out of seven siblings. My house is crazy due to the amount of people, but I feel incredibly blessed by each and every one of them. I love to sing, write poetry, and swing dance.
