1. What is the process
First, the student must apply. Second, the students must secure two referrals from mentors, teachers, coaches, pastors or any adult who knows the student and his/her potential for leadership.
Third, if the student is accepted, a $50 deposit will be required along with a medical form and signed waiver (hard copy).
2. When is the application deadline?
Early bird applications are due by March 31, 2009. Regular applications are accepted through April 15th with deposits due May 1st, 2009. Late applications and deposits are due June 1, 2008.
The selection committee meets weekly to review applications until the class fills. Then a waiting list is compiled.
3. What is the cost?
$200 for early application (Feb 1 - March 31); $250 thereafter. Limited partial scholarships ($100) are available based on need.
4. What does the cost include?
Lodging, meals, and conference materials.
5. What are the dates of the conference?
2009 CLI
Thursday, June 18th - Sunday, June 21st
Check-in is between 2:00 and 4:00 pm
Check-out is between 12:00 and 2:00 pm
6. Where is the conference located?
On the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Approximately 100 miles south of Dallas and 100 miles north of Austin on Interstate 35.
7. Who may attend?
Students who are presently juniors or those who have only one year remaining in high school.
8. How are students selected?
Thousands of students are nominated each year. They must apply and secure two referral forms. The selection committee meets weekly in March to select between 50 and 75 students to attend. Selections are based on leadership experience and positions held for junior and senior years, as well as other involvements. Academic success is noted along with service activities.
Once the institute is filled, a waiting list of provisionally accepted students is compiled. If a spot becomes available, the next student is notified and has the chance to accept the appointment.
9. Where will I stay on campus?
Students will stay in one of the residence halls. The halls will be designated as we draw closer to final enrollment. The upperclass student leaders also stay in the hall with the CLI students.
10. What is the purpose of this conference?
This conference is designed to equip high school juniors with the skills and confidence necessary to take on leadership roles during their senior year of high school. It helps each student discover their strengths and identify their passions and recognize the connection between the two. It will also allow for personal growth in relational leadership as you learn from Baylor students and each other through interactive activities.
11. What should I bring?
Bedding and pillow for a single bed.
Towel and shower shoes.
Toiletries and personal items.
Casual attire for institute sessions.
Shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes for recreational activities.
Bible and pen.
12. How do I apply for the scholarship?
The form is an online submission. Partial scholarships of $100 discount are awarded based on need.

14. What activities are planned?
Seminar sessions with keynote speakers.
Breakout sessions with Baylor student leaders. Recreational and social activities along with a service project. A detailed institute schedule is posted under "schedule".
15. Are medical forms required?
Yes, along with a release signed by parent or legal guardian.
16. How do I pay?
Apply online and if you are accepted, mail your deposit check for $50 to the Christian Leadership Institute, One Bear Place #97100, Waco, Texas 76798-7100. The balance is due upon your arrival.
