There are numerous assumptions embedded in the argument that Baylor will sacrifice its distinctiveness as a teaching university in its pursuit of tier-one status and in its concerted effort to strengthen its Christian identity. First is the assumption that good researchers can not be good teachers, or, if they could be good teachers, they won't be able to give adequate time to their teaching responsibilities to become good teachers.
