Dr. David Guess serves as president and conductor of the Central Texas Choral Society, maintains a private voice studio of over 25 students, and directs the adult ensemble at First Baptist Church of Woodway. He is recognized for his sensitivity in audience-driven programming, his desire for musical excellence, and his love for music in the church.
From 1997-2006, he served as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX, and was on the music faculty at Baylor University as Visiting Lecturer in Ensembles during the 2008-2009 academic year. He has also served as director of the Baylor Men's Choir, taught on the adjunct faculty in the Department of Fine Arts at McLennan Community College, and was the choral director at Waco High School. He has served churches in Texas and Oklahoma in various combinations of Director of Music, Youth and Education.
Dr. Guess is in demand as an adjudicator, clinician and presenter and has directed high school All-Region choirs and church choir clinics throughout the southwest. He conducted the Texas Baptist All-State Youth Choir in 1999, 2003, and 2007 and the Louisiana Baptist All-State Youth Choir in 2007. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin (Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting), the University of Oklahoma (Master of Music Education), and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Bachelor of Music in Church Music).
He makes his home in Waco, Texas with his wife, Rebecca, an Anesthesiologist in private practice, and his children – Braden (19), a student in Vocal Music Education at the University of Texas in Austin, and Natalie (17), a junior at Midway High School in Waco. Besides his love for family, he finds time to keep a 3-handicap in golf and enjoys entertaining his two Labrador Retrievers, Maggie and Mollie.
